it's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you )

I'm not big on celebrity news, but I think Sandra Bullock is one of the strongest, most beautiful women out there. I really applaud her.

Also, I know I should mention the oil spill but I don't even know what there is to say. It's just...disgusting.

I can't recall the last time I felt so foolish. Lesson for me and to all those who tend to overdo it: Only take what you can carry or you're going to find yourself with scratched up legs and a sprained ankle.

Subject: Question for you

Cael,

I was hoping you'd meet me on the beach Thursday evening around 8. Let me know if you'll be there.

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Technology never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure many of you know who Roger Ebert is and I'm sure that many of you know that he struggled with thyroid and jaw cancer several years ago. Well, he hasn't been able to speak since 2006 and has been using a computer to speak for him, which is amazing enough in my opinion. New technology is being created to help his computer speak in his own voice using clips from his life. I watched the Oprah episode with him and his wife on it and it was completely touching. Here is part of the episode, just a small part. Not only is his strength amazing, but so is his wife's. She's such a strong woman and their relationship and interactions with each other brought me to tears. It's so nice to see the love they have and how disease hasn't taken that away.

I'm not sure if anyone heard about this, but apparently, a school in Rhode Island is letting all of their teachers go because of low performance. The school is not only one of the worst in the state, but also one of the worst in the country. The graduation rate is only 48%. I'm not sure firing each one of the teachers is really going to get the results they want, if you ask me. There were a bunch of methods, apparently, but I guess none were really agreed upon. All I know is that I seriously hope these students don't suffer even more because of this situation.

I know I'm a little late with this, but something I've been meaning to get, something I want more than an iPad surprisingly, is a Kindle. I haven't gotten around to actually ordering one yet, but that'd be so great to have on the island. I can't even tell you how much money I've spent on books at the Pavillion and off of Amazon. I'd still spend money on books for the Kindle but at least I'd have a place to put them! I have no room left on my bookshelf.

I don't normally get too much contact with the guests since I'm often behind the scenes, but every once in a while, I get to have conversations with some of them. Today, the "psychic" approached me while I was fixing one of the keyboards and simply told me that a big change will occur in my life soon. Isn't that a rather broad "prediction?" I simply thanked her before she walked away. It was definitely interesting though.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Haiti. What a terrible tragedy... If anyone would like to help, here is a list of organizations that offer aid and care to those in need, especially now in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti.

I'll be heading home this evening so I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and I'll see everyone when I return next Tuesday night.
